I was severely bullied

Since the age of 12, I have been experiencing suicidal thoughts and anxiety. I was severely bullied in Primary 6 but now I’m still recovering.

I feel like a jar, an empty jar. When everybody just takes everything inside away from you, and all you’re left with is nothing. Please stop putting labels on us, because sometimes all you’ve got to do is to understand how we feel. We are all humans.

My mental health journey hasn’t always been smooth. I’m currently in Secondary 3, so I’m seeing the school counselor. It has taken me courage to seek help and recover from it. I have cut myself many times, attempted suicide but now I’m still alive and breathing.

I choose to advocate for mental health because not many people understand how we actually feel. If you need to seek help, seek help. Don’t be ashamed of seeking help because it will be worth it in the end.

  1. Hey,
I felt the urge to reach out to you because I have been through something similar to what you are going through when I was 15. I’m glad you are reaching out for help from mental health professionals. I’ve always regretted not asking for help earlier. I too was severely bullied from the age of 10 and well into my teenage years. I couldn’t handle it and I used to cut myself and burn myself to cope with it. As an adult looking back, it seems crazy that I used to engage in such harmful behavior but hindsight is always 20/20.

I’m sorry you are going through such a rough time. No one should have to feel this way. I won’t lie to you, the pain of all this has a way of sticking around well into adulthood. BUT, with time and proper help from the right people, you will feel less empty. I promise you. Whenever you feel down and worn out, remind yourself that you deserve all the good things in the world. Your bullies don’t define you and how someone treats you is more a reflection of them and not a reflection of you (and I think everyone will agree that bullies are giant asshats).

At 15, you are also probably dealing with the stress of exams and school. Remember self-care and be kind to yourself. I’m rooting for you to have the brightest future possible.

    A Friend.
