About the Film
Shenxiu has grappled with feelings of abandonment since her mother left the family when she was a child. While on a family cruise, Shenxiu falls into the sea and encounters an extraordinary underwater world with a peculiar restaurant, where she meets its wildly eccentric chef, Nanhe. Shenxiu is taken on a journey through this fantastical realm as she tries to find her mother again.
Set against a backdrop of mesmerising colours and enthralling animation, Deep Sea weaves together a surreal world and an emotionally rich narrative, standing as a testament to TIAN Xiaopeng’s ingenuity, affirming his status as one of China’s pioneering CG artists.

About the Director
As one of the earliest CG artists in China, TIAN Xiaopeng is committed to the exploration of CG animation. In 2015, after eight years of development, his first animated feature Monkey King: Hero is Back was released. It set a box office record with 140 million USD.
It took him seven years to make Deep Sea, an unprecedented work with new animation techniques. His first real action film Three-Body is in development, adapted from a novel by Liu Cixin, the first Chinese sci-fi novel to win a Hugo Award in Asia.
