Introduction to Dance Flow Therapy

Organised by Danspire and Mental Health Film Festival Singapore.

What is Dance Flow Therapy (DFT)?

Dance Flow Therapy (DFT) is a therapeutic process to help attendees release their bodies that have become restricted, tired or painful due to repeated mental and emotional stresses. By moving their bodies in a systematic and somatic way with class-time coaching, attendees gain awareness of how they physically cope with stress and learn new ways to regulate themselves safely with a tangible approach.

Programme outline:

  • Exploration of connections between the brain, heart and body
  • Learning breath-movement awareness
  • Gaining a macro-micro view through dance learning
  • Spatial awareness through dance learning
  • Appreciation and celebration of the mind, heart and body

Vincent Yong is an international presenter and the founder of Danspire. With over 20 years of experience in dance and movement education, he is the only Registered Somatic Movement Educator/Therapist (RSME/T) and Somatic Dance Educator (RSDE) in Singapore under the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA). He is the author of Flow-The Art of Creating AbunDance and has spoken at the Harvard University Movementis Conference, the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Conference, the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science conference, The Embodiment Conference etc.

Danspire International was officially set up in 2012 after a four year brew of the concept and name. “Dans” is the Dutch word for dancing and to inspire was the aim. The founder had received dance education and training in The Netherlands and was fascinated with how the Dutch culture had inspired his connection of his body, dance and life on a whole new level.
